Miner

The miner is the first hand in the metal chain. With a pickaxe they take ore from the veins scattered across Skyrim and smelt what they took into eight different bars, from the level 1 Iron Ingot to the level 5 Refined Malachite.

The work

The work has two halves. The first is the vein: each one holds a limited amount of ore and demands the right tool in hand, and the richer veins ask for a higher trade level. The second is smelting, which happens at the forge and turns raw ore into a bar. Corundum, Silver, Orichalcum, Gold, Ebony and Malachite come in that order as you climb.

What it depends on

No blacksmith on the server forges without a miner ahead of them, and no tailor makes jewellery without smelted silver or gold. The miner is the trade that depends least on the others and that the others depend on most: everything it makes is input, nothing is a finished good.

How the trades work

Two trades per character, five levels in each. Experience comes from gathering and from making, and the thresholds are 1,000, 6,000, 15,000 and 30,000 points.

Gathering takes from the world: an ore vein, a tree, a downed animal, a field. Making needs the right station nearby, the forge for metal, the cooking pot for food, and the components in your pack.

Recipes are gated by level, and most of them ask for material another trade produced. That is what keeps the server economy turning around people instead of shops.
