What’s new

Everything that reached the server, update by update, with the screens of each change.

Notice boards in the towns

Pin a paper on the square’s notice board and let the courier carry it across the holds. Sell, buy, look for someone, or leave a note without saying who wrote it.

Notice boards

Towns and villages get wooden notice boards covered in papers. Walk up, press Read and see the board face on: ads on one side, notes on the other and the hold’s edict at the top.

  • The courier carries the paper

Choose how far the paper goes: this board, the hold, the neighbouring holds or all of Skyrim. It reaches the hold’s other boards 5 minutes later and takes 10 more minutes for every hold of distance. On your own paper you see where it is still on its way to.

  • Unsigned

Pay double and the paper goes up without your name. Whoever reads it does not know who wrote it.

  • 15

    Gold a day

A paper stays up from 1 to 7 days. A wax seal costs 150 more and puts it in a prominent spot, and each wider reach doubles the price. Gold paid is not refunded.

More details (5)
  • Answer a paper for 5 gold. Up to 5 replies fit under each one, and its author is told when someone answers.
  • The jarl, the Hand and the chancellor pin the hold’s edict for free, at the top of every board in the hold.
  • Each character can have up to 2 papers up at once, across every hold. A board holds 24 papers; one that reaches a full board waits in the courier’s bag until a slot opens.
  • You can tear your own paper down whenever you like and pull the replies you do not want off it.
  • Choosing how far the paper goes shows the map of Skyrim, from up close to the whole province.

Clans, letters and the hunger of beasts

Found a clan and plant your banner. Fight with what you have mastered. Write letters without signing them. Howl as a werewolf and feel the hunger coming. And come back to professions and skills rebuilt from scratch.

Clans

Gather your people under a crest. Players now found their own clans, with ranks, titles, a banner to plant in the ground and a book where the clan’s history is written.

  • 2h

    Plant the banner

The clan banner comes down with a thud everyone around hears. The cloth carries the crest’s colours and the clan tag, and it holds the ground for two hours.

  • A chronicle in a fine hand

A leather-bound book with a wax seal and Skyrim’s own illuminated capitals. Every milestone becomes a page, with photos tipped in and the member roll.

  • 10,000

    Gold to found one

Build the crest from shields and symbols, create the ranks and choose who can do what. Members of public clans wear three titles in the clan’s colour.

More details (5)
  • Each character can be in only one clan, and invitations happen in person.
  • Founding a clan has its own scene, with the crest being sealed.
  • Public clans show on the People list, and the clan tag shows in titles and the friends list.
  • Chronicle entries are written at a desk that shows the page live.
  • Clan missives arrive by mail.

Combat

A steel sword is not the same in every hand. Damage now depends on how well you know the weapon, and protection on how well you know the armour you wear.

  • 60→100%

    Your proficiency is the weapon

Someone who never trained One-Handed gets 60% of a sword’s damage. Each rank in the weapon’s tree adds 10%, and only a master draws out 100%. Two-Handed and Archery work the same way: the gear opens the door, training decides the blow.

  • The armour you know

Each piece’s protection grows with your rank in Light Armour, Heavy Armour or Shield. Wearing heavy steel without training protects far less than it looks.

  • 60%

    Protection cap

Pieces, shield and armour spells add up, but nothing protects beyond 60%. Every blow always wounds.

How much of the item you get

Applies to the weapon’s damage and the armour’s protection, by your rank in the item’s tree: One-Handed, Two-Handed, Archery, Light Armour, Heavy Armour or Shield.

More details (5)
  • Every weapon and every armour piece has its own damage and protection, set by the server.
  • Tempering multiplies damage and protection, on top of what your rank unlocks.
  • The inventory and the character sheet show the damage and protection the server actually applies, and how far you are from the maximum.
  • Creatures and NPCs always use 100% of their own weapons and armour.
  • Power attacks, blocks and sneak attacks apply after protection.

Letters and photos

A letter can arrive without a name. You now write on vellum, choose whether to sign and get answers back. And your photos get a gallery inside the game.

  • Write without signing

An anonymous letter arrives "from nobody" and cannot be answered. Whoever wrote it stays a secret.

  • Every signed letter can be answered

The answer quotes the original ("In answer to your letter of…") and reaches whoever signed it, even if you have never met.

More details (3)
  • Letters are written on vellum, with a date, an illuminated capital and the signature at the foot.
  • The friends notebook lists everyone you have met, not just the 20 most recent.
  • You can delete a photo from your computer right from the gallery.

Werewolf and vampire

The beast now has a voice, a hunger and a howl. The change plays the game’s own scene, the voice turns deep with reverb, and the hunger warns before it takes the body.

  • The voice of the beast

Transformations like the Vampire Lord and the Werewolf change the player’s voice chat, making it deeper with a reverb effect. Everyone around hears the beast, not you.

  • X

    The howl

The werewolf howls, everyone nearby hears it, and for 15 seconds it sees every living thing around it.

  • 4

    Stages of hunger

A bar counts down until hunger forces the change. As it grows, your vision turns to blood and your heart beats loud.

More details (11)
Werewolf
  • The change plays the game’s own animation, with the camera swinging round to the front.
  • The fur grows through the change, with 15 seconds of smoke, as in the original game.
  • When hunger is close to taking the body, those nearby hear the werewolf’s heavy breathing.
Vampire
  • The vampire face comes in a breath of mist, and the Vampire Lord out of a swarm of bats.
  • The Vampire Lord drains corpses with a red glow and a sound of its own.
  • A vampire with only the face can feed too, crouched.
In both forms
  • In beast form you appear as "Vile Creature" to everyone, friends included.
  • A HUD of its own replaces the standard meters, with hunger beside them.
  • The effects pane shows the disease, the current form and the hunger.
  • A turned vampire or werewolf has 10% more health.
  • New Supernatural Bane effect: hits on vampires and werewolves deal 20% more damage.

Professions

Choose one profession to draw from the land and another to make things with. Each has its own levels and perks, and the vein you mine is yours alone.

  • Every recipe teaches by your level

Experience now depends on the recipe’s level. Recipes near your level pay full XP, and the ones you have outgrown pay less and less, down to a trickle. The craft menu paints each recipe orange, yellow, green or grey, so you know at a glance what is worth making.

  • 5×

    XP the first time

The first time you make a recipe pays five times the usual experience. Trying new recipes is the fastest way to rise.

  • The vein is yours

Each player has their own charges in every vein and node. Nobody gets there first and empties what is yours.

  • See what each level opens

The professions tab shows, level by level, what you get: new recipes, tempering, enchantments, ores, gem veins, pelts, livestock and perks.

A recipe’s colour

In the craft menu, the colour tells how much a recipe still teaches at your level.

What each profession gets

One gathering and one craft per player. Levels open gradually on each server: at launch, the Blacksmith goes up to 10 and the Miner to 6.

What the hunter skins

One press of E skins the beast: the hunter gets one pelt and one meat. Higher-level beasts pay up to 3 times the XP. Farm animals and horses are tame and cannot be skinned.

21Snow bear, snowy sabre cat, frost troll
More details (5)
  • If you drop a profession its experience is kept, and comes back when you take it up again.
  • When the server opens more levels, anyone who already had the experience rises at once.
  • Longer pieces of work pay more experience.
  • Gathering is an action with a pose: the miner sits at the vein, the lumberjack chops trees with E and the farmer kneels at the crop. The tool only has to be in your pack.
  • Old experience was moved onto the new curves, and every profession is free to be chosen again.

Skills

Time away now works in your favour. A new skills menu, every perk working and training that rewards real fighting.

  • 2×

    Rested XP

While you are away from the game, a bonus builds up. When you come back, every point of skill XP counts double until it runs out.

  • Healers earn too

Each foe is worth XP by its strength, split equally between everyone who fought, including whoever stayed behind healing.

  • Every perk works

The perks that used to be sealed now have effects, and each one says exactly what it does.

More details (5)
  • Your rank in One-Handed, Two-Handed, Archery, Light Armour, Heavy Armour and Shield now sets how much of an item’s damage and protection you get.
  • The menu has been redesigned: the trees sit in a side rail, split into combat and magic.
  • Progression is longer, and existing XP was converted without anyone losing a rank.
  • Armour and shield only train while you fight back, and the same foe pays less after many kills in a row.
  • Destruction trains on a hit, restoration while you are hurt, and horses teach nothing.

Stable

The stablemaster sells seven horses: three open to everyone and four kept for Patrons.

  • 8,000

    Your first horse

Common horses cost 8,000, 8,000 and 12,000 gold, and selling back pays 40% of the stable price.

Fixes

Small things that got in the way and no longer do.

More details (4)
  • Weapons and armour take one row per copy in the inventory instead of stacking.
  • The launcher turns the compass on when you press Play.
  • The interaction prompt is more precise for people, corpses and trees.
  • The game no longer closes when started with an older Skyrim Platform.

The alpha has started
